Though Republicans have considered over the last several weeks a range of provisions relating to ObamaCare, the one they settled on in this package would force Congress, the president, and many other administration officials and staff onto ObamaCare without additional subsidies. GOP lawmakers described the proposed mandate as a matter of “fairness.”
“If the president and Senate Democrats are going to force the American people to live under ObamaCare, then they and all Washington leaders should not be shielded from the law,” one GOP aide said.
If the bill passes, the House would effectively dare the Senate to hold up the bill — and risk missing the debt-ceiling deadline — because senators don’t want to submit to ObamaCare.
I like it. There is no provision in Obamacare for employers to subsidize or reimburse their employees for premiums. Many Americans living in the real world will NOT receive any subsidies due to their income. Our representatives and their staffs can play by those rules as well.
Why Congress is (or isn’t) exempt from Obamacare. The Obamcare government exemption explained…
Of all the arguments against the Affordable Care Act that congressional Republicans are mustering in the debate over the spending bill, one hits closest to home. Congress, they say, is exempt from the very law that applies to everyone else.
The truth: Members of Congress are treated differently under Obamacare, but they’re not exempt. In fact, by forcing them to purchase health insurance through publicly run exchanges, they’re impacted more by that key provision than similar employees in private sector — or even in government.
But members of Congress will also be able to purchase their insurance under terms that are more favorable than other employees — in government or in business — who have access to employer-provided health care.
Not a bad deal to be living inside the castle walls!
Good for them. GOP Senators Announce Legislation To Reverse ‘Obamacare’ Exemptions For Government Officials « CBS DC.
Two Republican senators have announced their plan for legislation that would require that all members of Congress, the president, vice president and all political appointees in the administration to purchase their health insurance from the “Obamacare” exchanges without taxpayer subsidies.
Republican Sens. Mike Enzi of Wyoming and David Vitter of Louisiana are looking to reverse a September decision by the Office of Personnel and Management (OPM) that would allow government officials and staff to keep generous taxpayer-funded contributions.
My prediction is a lack of support from their fellow Senators for undoing their Obamacare exemptions, which is truly unfortunate. Our Congressional “nobility” and their minions are receiving subsidies regardless of their income. Everyone else who is required to buy coverage has to qualify for a subsidy based on their income.
Deal Keeps U.S. Health Care Contribution for Congress – NYTimes.com.
The Obama administration told Congress on Thursday that it would allow the federal government to continue paying a large share of the cost of health insurance for members of Congress and their aides, averting a problem for many who work on Capitol Hill.
Are they just making stuff up as they go along?

America’s Obamacare crisis remains very much unsolved.
The OPM’s move is illegal. Congress passed an amendment to Obamacare that mandated that Congress and staff had to abide by it themselves. OPM doesn’t have the power to change the law any more than Obama had the power to delay the employer mandate.
As Obamacare fundamentally transforms our health care system, it’s also fundamentally transforming the nation itself. We were once a nation of laws. Now we’re a nation of the whims of bureaucrats.
The only fix here is to repeal the entire thing. Defund it. Repeal it. Rip it out root and branch. Obamacare delenda est.

Cry me a river. Perhaps they were in a little too much of a hurry to pass the bill so they could find out what’s in it. The “hurry to pass the bill” issue is also addressed at the link.
The bottom line is the law dictates that the politicians and their staff must purchase through their state exchanges but there is no mechanism for them to be reimbursed as they are now.
Well Congress, you’re not the only people with this problem. Just wait until you hear from families tha are affected by the “family glitch”. You can learn more about the Obamacare family glitch here and here.
“Just because they backed off, doesn’t mean that we should”: Obamacare Exemption for Congress. We’re Missing The Point | Michael BrownMichael Brown.
Michael’s rant on the Obamacare exemption our arrogant politicians are looking to carve out to protect their own self interests concludes…
Just because these clowns were caught scheming about such a ridiculous idea doesn’t mean they still shouldn’t be held accountable.
The very idea that Democrats and Republicans would even consider such an idea should not be forgotten. This is the audacity of arrogance of a political ruling class that is out of control, disengaged from the very people they govern.
The very nature of this idea is so repugnant, considering the stealth manner in which Obamacare was adopted, the lack of public support for the program now, and the admission by some original supporters that the legislation is unworkable, that the leadership of both parties should be replaced in its entirety.
There comes a time when the leadership of any organization becomes so self-centered, with no perspective except self-interest, that the organization can survive only by the complete and total replacement of the leadership.
We have reached that point with Congress.
The entire leadership of the Republican Party and the entire leadership of the Democrat party needs to be replaced.
Indeed. I’m willing, are you?
Lawmakers, aides may get Obamacare exemption – POLITICO.com.
Do these politicians have no brains at all?
Congressional leaders in both parties are engaged in high-level, confidential talks about exempting lawmakers and Capitol Hill aides from the insurance exchanges they are mandated to join as part of President Barack Obama’s health care overhaul, sources in both parties said.
A source close to the talks says: “Everyone has to hold hands on this and jump, or nothing is going to get done.”
